Mobile measurement cases – monitoring without mains power
Some measurements have to be made where there is no power, no network and no technical room to mount the equipment. By a river that must be monitored during construction work, at a discharge point, in an excavation or out on a quay. A permanent installation is then often too expensive or too cumbersome – especially when the need only lasts for a while.
That is why we have built mobile measurement cases.
Everything in one case
Each case has a battery, sensor and GPS tracker built in, in a rugged box that can stay outdoors. It is placed out, the sensor is lowered or mounted, and the readings start coming in. No power, cables or network are needed on site.
The tracker shows where the case is – useful when equipment is moved between measuring points or stands far out in the terrain.
What can be measured?
The cases are put together according to what needs monitoring. Typical measurements are level and turbidity – how high the water is and how murky it is – but the sensor is chosen to suit the need, and can also be for pressure, temperature or other water quality parameters, for example.
Data at a distance
Readings are sent over the mobile network (4G/5G) or LoRa, depending on coverage and how often you need to measure. The data can be shown in a dedicated web portal we develop in Microsoft Azure, where you log in and see your own measurements. It can also be connected to SCADA – Ignition, for example – and used for alerts when a value goes above or below a limit.
So you no longer need to drive out to take readings, and you are notified straight away when something changes.
Rent or buy
The cases can be both rented and bought. We usually put them together for each customer, with the sensors and communication that suit the measurement and the location.
Typical applications
- Monitoring water flow and turbidity in rivers and streams during construction work
- Level measurement in manholes, basins and reservoirs without power
- Temporary monitoring before a permanent installation is built
- Documenting water quality at discharge points
